Starting Over…Again

Hello Release The APE community!

My family and I have taken on a completely new start up mission with InterVarsity – the same organization I have been working with for 13 years.

InterVarsity is on 700 campuses in America and in 49 states. But, we have had no presence in Louisiana in over a decade. My family and I have said “yes” to moving here for the next decade (God willing) to restart this work on the 38 college campuses. It’s a major transition that has caused us to uproot everything in our lives. The move from Los Angeles to Louisiana is no joke!

But, the great news is that I am completely back in the mindset of a planter and I believe that will help me help you more.

So, as we start this mission I am going to start writing again. I have some new insights to bring and since we are starting right back at zero, I am energized to encourage the other apostolic people reading this blog. Starting new works with God takes a special spirituality and energy and I want to continue to encourage leaders in that realm.

In the meantime, check out some of my vision videos to see what we are up to. We are looking to build a team, and since this is an apostolic community, I thought I would extend the invitation to you. Maybe some of you reading this blog are called to join us in this mission? If not called to physically join us, maybe you would pray for us?

As I write new posts in this series “Starting From Zero” I will host them here inside this page.

So, as I get back to writing again let me ask you this:

What kinds of “start up” encouragement do you need? What would you want to hear from me with regards to planting and starting new works with Jesus? Leave a comment below.

  1. Yay. I am glad you are back. I am personally moving to a new ministry at a church at the end of the month. I am rebooting their Children’s ministry.

  2. I’m amazed at how God led me to this post today. I haven’t received anything from you for a while. Last night God spoke “release the ape”. This morning here is your blog post. I have three different works that God is wanting to begin and I’m having so much, what I would call, anguish, in trying to get the right type of support from my church. How do you know you’re in the right place and getting the right support?

    • Amy, how cool God spoke that to you and then it happened! I will do my best to keep RTA going! How do I know I am in the right place for support? A few things…can I carry out my full calling without hesitation? Does the pastoral staff support my mission in prayer (hopefully finances too). Does the church as a whole energize my mission (do the values align and is the church doing apostolic ministry)? There are more of course, but you want to feel laughed and encouraged, not like you are fighting or pressing against a dam.

  3. Hi Beau! I think something I’ve recently been learning the importance of is: Gift developing. To explain, when I was a part of Intervarsity, my staff worker took the initiative to identify and pray through what gifts God had placed in me to use for his kingdom and helped them to flourish once they were identified.

Do you have any tips/even biblical knowledge of this topic. I have a group of young people in the church who really love the Lord but some of them have yet to find their niche so to speak

    • illuminator! I have some tips but that is a more lengthy post conversation. Where I would start is with Ephesians (download our ebook for free and work through the articles). Help them understand their calling inside a combination of the five. But, then I would go to Corinthians 12 and work through the power gifts. What gifts has God given them to live out their calling? Pray through and talk through that. The five fold is the encasement while the gifts in Corinthians are the fruit or way in which ministry moves. I may be an evangelist by calling, but the way I minister could be with words of knowledge or healing, etc.
